Travel Diaries – Monday

Not everyone has the same idea of what constitutes the perfect vacation. While some of us might be content to sit on a beach with a cocktail and a book all day long, others prefer a getaway that’s jam-packed with adventurous activities.

This week is a curated list of getaway ideas inspired by different personalities and interests. There’s something here for every type of traveler, whether you want to spend your time off being pampered, indulging in some much-needed retail therapy, or exploring the great outdoors.

Nothing defines Palawan more than the water around it. With seascapes the equal of any in Southeast Asia, and wildlife terrestrial and aquatic, the Philippines’ most sparsely populated region is also the most beguiling.

Centrally located Puerto Princesa (Puerto) is the culinary capital and primary gateway to nearby rural and oceanfront tranquillity. The majority of travellers go north to El Nido or Coron town, base camps for island-hopping, snorkelling and diving adventures in the Bacuit archipelago and Calamianes group.

If you’re looking to escape from the crowds and lounge on your own private slice of heaven, check out Palawan Island in the Philippines. It’s not as well-known as some of Southeast Asia (such as Phuket or other parts of Thailand), but it’s every bit as beautiful. Towering waterfalls, miles and miles of lush plants, crystal-clear beaches, and virtually no one else in sight. Can’t beat that.

For a secluded vacation, try the Amanpulo at Palawan. It is the prefect place for the discerning and discreet traveller in need of some sunshine and solitude.
